Well, I tried it, half knowing that it wouldn’t work, I tried fixing it, but it just seems that Tumblr and WordPress are destined to bicker with each other.
The problem lies mainly with Tumblr and the fact that you can’t control what goes into the RSS feed. Using the Advanced Category Excluder WordPress plugin, you can block categories from being in the RSS feed, so the ‘Tumblr’ category is ignored (so the tumblog isn’t repeating itself). With Tumblr, it’s all or nothing. It sucks posts in via RSS, so what WordPress gets back are the posts from Tumblr, plus the original WordPress posts. Crazy.
During the fixing stage, I decided that it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to have daft pictures and ‘witty’ one-liners RSS’d to this site anyway. My readership is pretty low anyway, so why scare anyone away with things like opinions? Let’s just keep it for (supposed) articles.
(I’ll continue to use Tumblr in addition to this, so please feel free to follow me at boredmatt.tumblr.com).
I seem to have phases of posting regularly, and then not for a month or two. If I’m posting, it means I’m doing something technical/useful that I want to share. If I’m not posting, it means I’m not doing much, or I’m even more immersed in something than when I’m posting.
The latest lack of posts is down to being far too involved with several projects (which I’m currently trying to write about). However, I’ve discovered what a great platform Tumblr is for sharing things/snippets/images/ramblings that are irrelevant to this blog. I’m giving it a go, but want anything I post here, to also be posted to Tumblr, and things posted at Tumblr to be posted here. I’m currently working on that, and I think I may have sorted it, but we’ll soon see.
